Singer Eric Andraska: 'I wrote the lyrics to this song thinking about how, “like moths,” we are drawn towards “the light” no matter how much we fight it. I was stuck in a rut thinking about the past. But I eventually came to the realization that much of that had to be left behind. It’s about the harsh dichotomy of having to go forward with “our hearts open wide” — but also acknowledging that we’ve given up and it is indeed “for the last time.”' Corridoré focuses ethereal post-metal through a blackgaze lens. The band contrasts atmospherics, stark melodies, and mile-wide riffs using dynamics as the key to navigating between blast beats and pastoral interludes. Corridoré harnesses the post-metal majesty of bands like Russian Circles while enveloping it in the maelstrom of blackgaze outfits like Deafheaven and Nothing. Guitars interweave bludgeoning riffs and soaring tremolo passages; distorted bass bulldozes the underlying chord progressions; drums slip in and out of blast beats. These sonics underpin the faraway screams and haunting vocals. Long-time friends and musical collaborators, bassist/vocalist Eric Andraska and guitarist Matt Allen began the band in 2016 in Madison, Wisconsin and self-released their debut LP in 2019. For the next phase of Corridoré, they recruited guitarist Russell Hall and drummer Nick Bartley to expand and focus their sonic explorations and began writing and recording a second LP in 2023. Abandon is a harrowing tale of the fragility of human experience against the backdrop of a cultural wasteland. The dystopian atmosphere moves between moments of stark despair and glimmers of hope, meditating on the resilience of the human spirit.
