In a normal menstrual cycle, a balance between the hormones estrogen and progesterone regulates the buildup of the lining of the uterus (endometrium), which is shed during menstruation. If a hormone imbalance occurs, the endometrium develops in excess and eventually sheds by way of heavy menstrual bleeding. Diagnosis : speculum examination , hysteroscopy play important role in diagnosis & curative purpose .few cases may need hysterectomy surgery . laparoscopic myomectomy may needed in young patients & infertile patients with fibroids. Excess bleeding with fibroid uterus some times needs laparoscopic hysterectomy. Post menopausal patients with heavy bleeding sometimes diagnoses as cervical carcinoma & endometrial carcinoma . They treats according to their pathology founds . most of the patients with heavy bleeding are diagnosed as benign pathology . sometime hormonal imbalance will be cured by medications . Hypothyroid one of the common endocrine disorders will cause heavy bleeding during reproductive age groups. but in pubertal girls hormonal imbalance is the commonest cause but one should rule out haematological disorders.
