Horses shoulders are only "attached" to the torso by muscles, ligaments and tendons. So when there are restrictions in the fascia from scar tissue and adhesions the shoulders will be asymmetrical. Asymmetry between the shoulders will cause and perpetuate other asymmetries and compensations in gait and posture including the balance of the hoof caspule. Compromising performance, soundness and overall well-being. Dr. Pat has lectured on the difference between posture and conformation quite often and clarifies the confusion between the two. Poor posture will compromise even the best conformed horse due to compensations from old injuries, trauma and overuse causing asymmetry in posture and gait. She coined the phrase RedFlags which are sites of old trauma that may be healed on the outside but not on the inside. Dents and Dings in the points of shoulders and point of buttocks are very common and too often thought of as cosmetic if they are even noticed. Other RedFlags are scar tissue, white hairs, loss of hair, irregular contours, creased spinal muscles and bubbles. Cross fiber massage and Posture Prep Cross Fiber grooming system can release the adhesions, trigger points and deep restriction as you groom.
