More than three years have passed since Krisztián Sárneczky, an astronomer, first—and for a long time, last—discussed current issues in astronomy and space exploration on our podcast. Given that astronomy and space research are among Sándor Friderikusz’s favorite scientific fields, it’s hard to understand how over three years could have gone by without revisiting the topic. But better late than never. We’ve invited Krisztián Sárneczky back to delve into topics and questions such as the relationship between black holes and dark matter, whether there are giant stars on the verge of exploding that could threaten the Solar System, the current expansion rate of the Universe and why it matters, and the significance of discovering an exoplanet similar to Earth—especially since we wouldn’t be able to relocate there anyway. The conversation also touches on whether the Universe will ever be destroyed and why low-orbit satellite systems, like Elon Musk’s Starlink, should potentially be banned from the skies. In this episode, we’ll also cover topics likely to pique many listeners' interest, such as the possible existence of a ninth planet in the Solar System and what humanity stands to gain from planned crewed missions to Mars. Sándor Friderikusz will explore what the world plans to do about the growing issue of space debris—considering that alongside roughly 12,000 satellites orbiting Earth, there are over 35,000 pieces of space junk, totaling around 6,000 tons. He won’t shy away from seemingly naive questions either, like whether deep drilling on Earth could affect the planet’s stability. And, of course, we’ll once again address questions about the possible existence of extraterrestrial civilizations. So, listeners fascinated by the wonders of space can expect an in-depth discussion. However, this is just the first part of the podcast. In the second part, we’ll share details about our new health series, LAKATOS LABOR, which premieres next Thursday, February 6. In the final segment, we’ll introduce András Szabó, an investigative journalist from direkt36, who this week became the third recipient of the László Szente Award. How Can You Support Our Work?
