Minimally Invasive Method for Distal Urethral Reconstruction- Patient Information
This animation shows steps of the procedure (urethroplasty) for a minimally-invasive reconstruction of distal urethral stricture without a need for skin incision. Step 1: a wedge of the obstructive scar tissue is removed through the urethra (no need for penile skin incision) Step 2: a small thin graft of oral mucosa is harvested attached and delivered with sutures to the proximal (deep) edge of the incised urethra Step 3: the distal (external) edge of the graft is secured to the edge of the incision, and the middle part of the graft is "quilted" in place. This procedure was developed in 2013 at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY
