Hello! It's been a bit! Let's talk about that! I've hit a few new lows recently- I've talked about it briefly here before but I've made a lot of new discoveries on my mental health as well as I've been struggling with work and finding time for other things- work cuts my time in half, and then the exhaustion from it floors me. I work as hard as I can every day, and a lot of it goes into making KC pages. Animation is still a huge passion of mine and I want to keep creating- this change in uploads is not something I'm doing willingly. Every time I upload a vent, I have to mention "hey, don't worry, I'm alright!" which, I am for the most part! My struggles aren't for anyone else to deal with, and burdening a public audience with these things is not something I plan to do, but I, in reality, really, really have been just. Flattened. By mental health problems. My art is the only reason I'm still going, even when I have to force myself to do things for it. When I heard this song, it certainly inspired me into actually working as hard as I could on making something for it- and, I wanted so badly to say this is my turning point. But I'm not actually sure it is. We'll have to see. Jack is a character I made when I was 15, I had just left my abuser a year prior, and I was barely alive under the weight of what I'd been through. He became a huge outlet for me, and even today, he's what I put emotions through when I'm really struggling. My webcomic is supposed to be about recovery. I don't plan on ever changing that meaning, because it's important to me- to everyone. Writing a character as hopeless and struggling as Jack throughout this story growing to get worse and then get better is something I've really put a lot of love into- we aren't even through act 1 yet, but while this story is long, I really, really hope it's worth it. Growing up extremely mentally ill, stories like this were all I had. So that's why I animated this song with him. I want to mention that recovery isn't just something that you can just say you're gonna do and then do it- it's not even really like climbing a mountain. It's continuous, it lasts forever. If recovery were like how it was in stories, I would've made this, and then been fine forever. But while making this, I was hurt multiple times. I sunk to depths I don't like talking about. I broke down from other things happening or even things that happened to me a decade ago. Recovery isn't linear. Either way, I put a lot of love into this, and there were points where it could've been done quicker if I'd just forced myself harder, but I'm glad it's done, and I'm really happy with the result.
