We first consider a channel section and discuss the way loading at the shear centre perpendicular to the axis of symmetry is similar to applying a load at the centroid of a rectangular section of a beam. In the first case there is no torque and in the second case there is no moment in the section. Applying a load at a different point causes additional torque in a channel section and moment in a beam of rectangular section. We next discuss cases, where there is no axis of symmetry.
