Artificial intelligence is already showing up inside nonprofit organizations, often before leadership realizes it. Staff are using it to draft emails and reports, consultants are recommending it for efficiency, and funders are beginning to pay closer attention. The real risk for nonprofits isn’t whether AI will be used. The real risk is un-governed use that quietly undermines trust. This is the video from our second AI for Impact session hosted by Valerie F. Leonard, Founder of Nonprofit Utopia, and facilitated by Steven Casey, Founder of Kindred Impact. Together, they convene nonprofit leaders for a candid, practical conversation about what responsible AI use actually requires. This is not a technical tutorial or a showcase of tools. It is a leadership conversation focused on governance, accountability,, and the continued necessity of human judgment as AI becomes more embedded in nonprofit operations. Throughout the session, participants explore why inaction is not a neutral strategy, how “shadow AI” is already operating inside many organizations, and why human-in-the-loop oversight is non-negotiable. The discussion clarifies the differences between predictive, generative, and agentic AI, and explains why boards and executive leadership can no longer afford to treat AI as a side issue or a purely technical concern. The conversation includes real questions from nonprofit executives and practitioners navigating AI in real time, offering grounded insight rather than theory. It speaks directly to leaders responsible for protecting organizational integrity, funder confidence, and community trust in a rapidly changing environment. If this conversation raises questions for you, that is intentional. Feel free to contact Steven Casey at Steve@kindredimpactllc. The second session will be January 15, 2026 at the Impact House, 200 West Madison Street In Chicago, from 8:30 AM to noon. The work continues inside the Nonprofit Utopia Impact Circle, where nonprofit founders and directors are building strong systems, compliant organizations, and sustainable fundraising practices together.
