SOUNDBITE: (English) Bill Clinton, Former U.S. President (AUDIO AS INCOMING) "In my last year as president I got the richest countries in the world, the G8, to agree that we would give enough money to put all children in the world through primary school by 2010, and America tried to make a beginning by allocating 300 million dollars to get a meal in school to every child in poor countries that would come to school to get the meals. Enrolment in the countries where we participated went up by six million." 10. Wide shot school children and teachers clapping 11. Clinton shaking hands with school teachers 12. Wide shot of school children waving U.S. and Kenyan flags STORYLINE: Former United States President Bill Clinton visited the Kenyan Capital of Nairobi on Friday where he met Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki, as part of a six-nation tour of Africa to focus attention on the AIDS crisis in the continent. Clinton received a warm welcome from pupils at the Nairobi City Primary School, where he talked about his record of helping children in poorer countries complete their primary education. "In my last year as president I got the richest countries in the world, the G8 to agree that we would give enough money to put all children in the world through primary school by 2010, and America tried to make a beginning by allocating 300 million dollars to get a meal in school to every child in poor countries that would come to school to get the meals. Enrolment in the countries where we participated went up by six million," Clinton said. He promised to help Kenya to expand HIV/AIDS care and treatment, particularly for children and people living in rural areas that traditionally receive the least services in poor countries. Clinton said his foundation has received grants worth US (m) $1.5 million (euro (m) 1.24 million) to help train medical workers for deployment in rural areas in this East African nation. The money came from Elton John and the Children Investment Fund Foundation, a London-based charity that funds projects to improve the lives of children living in poverty in poor nations, Clinton said. Some 1.2 million Kenyans are infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. About 200,000 of these need treatment with life-prolonging drugs, but only 44,000 have access to the medication. Since 2002, the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative has been assisting countries in care, treatment and prevention programmes. It has partnerships with more than a dozen countries in Africa, the Caribbean and Asia.
