(25 Jan 2015) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Sunday offered his condolences at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Tokyo, following the death of King Abdullah. Abe signed a book of condolences and said the king had made a "great contribution to the relationship between Japan and Saudi Arabia." King Abdullah, who presided over Saudi Arabia for around two decades, died early on Friday at the age of 90 and was buried that same afternoon in the capital Riyadh. The oil-rich nation's late monarch ascended to the throne in 2005 but had been de-facto ruler for a decade before that.
