Creating a legend for a GIS data layer so that it shows your data in a specific way can be time-consuming, particularly if you have to do it on a regular basis. In this video, you will learn how to create your own custom legend and save it as Style File. Once you have created such a file, you can then import it and apply it to any data layer that you wish. This means that you only need to spend time creating your custom legend once, and do not have to go through this same procedure each time you wish to use the same custom legend for a data layer. This video uses QGIS 2.6.3, to demonstrate how to create a Style File, but the same basic approach should work in all versions of QGIS, and indeed other GIS software packages. This video is presented by Dr Colin D. MacLeod, author of 'GIS For Biologists: A Practical Introduction For Undergraduates', and is brought to you by GIS In Ecology (www.GISinEcology.com), the world leader in providing GIS training for biologists by biologists.
