Context is critical and necessary to accurately understanding the Bible; accurate understanding leads to accurate application. Discovering and understanding context does not have to be complicated. A simple way to begin is to start with the basic understanding of a word or phrase in it's original language. Second, the setting the word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph is in; this would include things such as the events, people, culture, etc. that are in the immediate text (from word, to phrase, to sentence, to paragraph). Third, are there related passages of scripture that help in understanding and clarifying the meaning of the passage, phrase, or word that is being studied. Fourth, what is the theme/subject of the larger setting of the specific passage; i.e., the paragraph or paragraphs, the chapter, the book or epistle. All of these are important to accurately understanding the Bible, accurate understanding leads to accurate application.
