For more info, send mail to: [email protected] The tale of how i became WASi ... ... i (the band) sprouted into existence when singer/songwriter/guitarists Bren Bland (Hysteria), and Paul Gilgen (OppressoR) began jamming in August 1995, later joined by Craig Atkins (Gutter Ballet) on bass. All three had recently re-located to Adelaide from the Riverland. Convincing long-time-jam-companion Paul "Chie" Anderson (Dazed & Confused) for drumming duties - but, who still resided in the Riverland - to complete the line-up was difficult but, a must-do, and was achieved during the end-of-'95 festive season. After shows in early 1996, "Live at Brompton" the only recordings with Atkins on bass was made, and a break was forced after Bland injured his shoulder. During recovery and intermittent rehearsals, the "Studio West 45" four-track demo was made and Adam Horvat (Dazed & Confused) took over as bassist. With assistance from Carl Bosley as resident engineer the "Rough Cut Rehearsals" tapes were put into a best of collection. In April '97 i entered the studio to record for the first time. Five songs were laid to tape, then suddenly, one song was required for "Riverland Unearthed", so there was a quick mix done of two tracks, the other three, "Studio 197", never got a proper mix and never being entirely happy with what had been recorded, the band scraped it, but "Live at Rough Cut" was recorded later in the year. March 1998, the band returned to Soundworks Studios with Cran to do one new song and re-record a previous three. "four songs" displayed, at least in-part, the diversity i were aiming for. An anticipated launch date in July was interrupted when other musical commitments meant finalization of the EP/CD were delayed ... extensively ... by about ... 7 ... years. Fear not good friend for teleport to 2005 ... and ... WASi - the band that was i but found it difficult to use a single letter for marketing or branding etc. - was created. Plus, by that stage there'd been a Norwegian-black-metal-supergroup using the name i, along with a tiny corporation who was doing very well at using the single letter i as a major part of its branding. A reformation was created when Anderson and Gilgen had begun playing together again, with Kev Bone (ebe) and Sam Baldock (ebe) in lonelmachine.itc, this made Bone as bassist and battering Bland to participate easy, the sole agreed condition was to slow it down some, no-one gets any younger. That said though, there were new songs being rehearsed immediately, so it was planned for a studio visit around August 2005. After only a handful of rehearsals and with gigs booked, "four songs" was finally put out to pasture in public. Sadly however, after several good shows other musical projects took priority and WASi never made it into the studio and in February 2009 Anderson died suddenly, and that was it.
