Hundreds of people stand with empty cylinders. Daily wage labourers. Women fasting during Ramadan. Families who say they have not cooked a proper meal in days. But the strangest part? Many of them already received a message saying their gas cylinder was delivered. Delivered… but never seen. Locals are now calling it the “Ghost Cylinder” problem. ________________________________________ 00:00 — THE 3 AM DESPERATION Before sunrise, the queue outside the gas agency is already hundreds long. Some residents say they have been coming for several days in a row. Many claim agencies are forcing them to wait 45 days between refills, even though the official rule is 25 days. For daily wage earners, every hour in the queue means lost income. [00:00] “मोदी जी बोला था गरीब के घर गैस चूल्हा होगा… आज हमको धक्के मार के भगा रहे हैं.” ________________________________________ 03:13 — THE GHOST DELIVERY MESSAGE Residents begin showing their phones. Several people say they received SMS alerts saying their cylinder was already delivered. But they never received anything. Their refill quota is gone. Their payment is deducted. And the agency tells them to come next month. [06:47] “9 तारीख को बुक किया… 13 तारीख को मैसेज आया कि सिलेंडर डिलीवर हो गया.” For families that cook one meal at a time, this message means weeks without gas. ________________________________________ 08:45 — THE PRICE OF POVERTY The struggle itself is expensive. Some labourers say they spend ₹200 on auto rickshaws just to carry empty cylinders to the agency. Many lose ₹500 in daily wages standing in the queue. And when the stock runs out… they go home empty-handed. [17:34] “तीन दिन से चूल्हा नहीं जला… कितनी तकलीफ है आपको क्या बताएं.” In several rented homes here, landlords have also banned wood stoves, saying smoke damages the walls. Which leaves families with only two options: Buy gas in the black market… or skip meals. ________________________________________ 11:31 — WHEN POLICE ENTER THE QUEUE As the crowd grows frustrated, tempers rise. In the middle of the queue, residents accuse police of pushing and slapping people who question the system. Women in the line begin shouting in protest. Phones come out. The argument is caught on camera. [12:39] “दरोगा जी महिला से बदतमीजी मत करो… गरीब है तो क्या थप्पड़ मारोगे?” People allege that while ordinary residents wait in line… VIP customers get their cylinders through backdoor entries. ________________________________________ 18:20 — TEARS IN SARFABAD One woman breaks down while speaking to the camera. She says she has been coming here for six straight days. Every day the answer is the same: “Come tomorrow.” She is also fasting during Ramadan. Standing in the heat, with an empty cylinder beside her.
