It was all rusty chipped the handle was broken and bolts stuck. In this video, I was experimenting with a rust remover. I was happily surprised what a layer is left on the metal. OLD AND RUSTY PICKAXE RESTORATION | HAND TOOL RESTORATION I got this pickaxe from a friend and wondered how it would turn out. The tool was rusty definitely not used for a while and overall in a bad shape. My ambition was to revive it again and make it usable. In the beginning, I used a rust remover solution to remove most of the rust. The solution not only removes rust but also protects the tool using phosphatization and ensures high adhesion of paints. I removed most of the rust with sanding discs and coarse wire wheels. Further cleaning, sanding, and polishing were handled by sanding discs (80, 120) and sandpapers in various grits (40, 80, 120). I painted some of the parts with Hammerite metal spray paint for better protection.
