The Skagit River is flooding. Flooding around western Washington has surpassed record levels. Some waterways are at historic highs, including the Skagit River, which has reached higher than it ever has before. As many as 75,000+ people are expected to have to evacuate in that area. Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders have been issued for communities in Skagit County. An alert from Skagit County notes that “historic flooding is occurring on the Skagit and Sauk Rivers.” Anyone in the area is ordered to evacuate immediately and to not wait. Officials warn that roads may be closed due to high water, and evacuees are urged to plan their route to get to high ground away from the river. ** RESIDENTS IN SKAGIT RIVER 100 YEAR FLOOD PLAIN URGED TO EVACUATE AS SKAGIT RIVER AREA STILL FACING HISTORIC FLOODING. Torrential rains continue to fall in the mountains as more than dozen river gauges head toward major flood stage and several threaten all time flood records. That includes the Skagit River where forecasts continue to show daunting and historic peak flood stage multiple feet over record stage. Authorities have urged everyone who is within the 100-year flood plain to be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Flooding in Mount Vernon was set to reach major flood stage by Thursday evening and peak well above the record Friday morning. BREAKING: 158,000+ PEOPLE in Western WA are now under a FLASH FLOOD WATCH due to potential LEVEE FAILURE. 🚨 The Skagit River threatens to breach dikes near Burlington & Mount Vernon. Bob Ferguson has activated the National Guard and said as many as 100,000 across the state are facing evacuations due to rising flood waters.
