Hello, how you all doin' this year-end season. A client wanted a box for his Kinetic KS-12 Stage 3 subwoofer driver. Submitted a design and layout SketchUp file and all the whole nine yards. Also sent me high quality flared plastic port tube and a high quality speaker cup terminal having pure copper components innit. Client also specified to paint the box nice and finish it with spatter and splatter touch on it. He chose painting because he think carpeted enclosures will get soaked with rain splashes when he opens the hatch up. So let me show you how all this semi-advanced box building is done. 00:00 - Cut MDF sheet into size. 00:30 - Mark the panel for aero-port hole. 00:35 - Snap off the fins on the plastic port tube. Doing so will create more surface area to put adhesive on ensuring the bond. 00:45 - Grind and smooth all sharp and bumpy edges remains on the flared port tube. 01:00 - Massive routing tasks for the port hole and internal braces start here. Several router bits used in achieving different edge profile and hole cutting. 01:55 - 4" PVC pipe is used for extending the length of the aero-port tube. 02:00 - A flap disc on an angle grinder is used in smoothing the PCV pipe edges. 02:15 - My not-so magical way of flaring the PVC pipe. 02:30 - Gluing and nailing all MDF panels and braces together starts here. 03:05 - Glue and secure the port tube to its bracing using a "no nail" all purpose adhesive. Apply evenly on all surface and edges for a smooth internal air flow. 03:15 - Glue and nail down the back panel on the wedge box. 03:25 - Roundover router bit is used to round every corner of the enclosure. Giving it a smoother look and feel. 03:35 - Light sanding using a 125 grit sandpaper before doing the paint works. 03:50 - Lacquer primer spray painting the subwoofer enclosure. 04:00 - Body filling the cracks and voids and uneven surfaces. Then wet sanding after the Bondo has dried. 04:10 - Spraying a coat of automotive lacquer semi-gloss paint. Then a splatter and spatter white paint over the base color for a more detailed finish. 04:35 - Soldering the speaker cup terminal a 12 gauge oxygen free speaker cable. 04:50 - Securing every solder joints using a heat shrink tube and a lighter. 05:05 - Use a spare rubber seal to ensure air-tight seal around the speaker cup terminal. 05:15 - Then finally glue down the plastic port tube using the same all purpose "no nail" glue. Lay flat using hand force and rotate the port tube to distribute glue evenly. 05:45 - Final product showcase.
