" An echocardiogram test is a safe and painless diagnostic procedure that uses sound waves (ultrasound) to create live images of the heart. This test helps doctors examine the size, shape, and movement of the heart, along with blood flow through its chambers and valves. It is commonly used to detect heart conditions such as valve problems, heart muscle weakness, congenital heart defects, and issues related to heart pumping efficiency. In this video, we explain how an echocardiogram test is performed, why it is recommended, and what the results mean for your heart health. Whether you are experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, or simply want to understand your heart better, this video will give you clear and easy-to-understand information. Watch till the end to learn the benefits, preparation tips, and importance of this essential heart test. During the echocardiography study, uh transmitter uh transmits the ultrasound beam and echoed waves from the heart reflected uh will be reconstructed as the image and displayed on the screen as an echocardiogram. In the echocardiogram, we analyze the structure of the heart and by applying the other modalities like Doppler studies and all, we'll analyze the function of the heart. So in echocardiography, we have uh transthoracic echocardiography as well as the transestrophascial echocardiography. These are the different modalities. basically coming to the 2D echocardiogram, what we routinely do in our daily practice, it's a two-dimensional echocardiogram and it gives the understanding of the various heart chambers and the heart structures and uh its movements. So in the echocardiography study, have other modalities called mode echocardiogram, that is a time motion echocardiogram. uh This gives a single beam of ultrasound analysis. So with the use of this mode echocardiography, we'll analyze the various measurements, like what is the size of the heart, what is the width of the particular uh structure, and what is the length and depth, like that we'll analyze. Whereas in... uh Doppler studies will analyze the movement of the red blood cells. uh Based on that, we'll analyze the various uh pressures uh inside the heart. And as well as there is another modality in the 2D echocardiography called color Doppler studies. So with the color Doppler, uh with the color coating of the blood cells, we will analyze the function of various valves, whether a particular valve uh is having any narrowing or whether that particular valve is leaking. So based on the color coding. we'll analyze this thing and also we can analyze uh if any abnormal connections are there in between the chambers based on the direction of the flow and all. So uh by doing these comprehensive studies, by doing the mode echocardiography and two-dimensional echocardiography as well as uh Doppler studies and uh as well as color Doppler studies, so we'll analyze heart structure as well as the function in a great detail. So earlier days we used to do CAT study, uh a technique called CAT studies to understand the pressures inside the heart by putting the characters inside. That's an invasive procedure. But uh by and large now echocardiography is almost an alternative to the CAT studies. uh Unless it's very necessary, we are not doing any CAT studies. Echocardiography is replaced almost all the CAT studies. So this is such a good tool we have. and it takes only five to 10 minutes to do a comprehensive cath echocardiography study and uh that gives great detail about the heart structure and function."
