THE HISTORIC ELSINORE THEATRE

I had the pleasure to sub on 2nd trombone with the Salem Orchestra at The Historic Elsinore Theatre (National Register of Historic Places: 91001575. June 17, 1994). The 3.2 million dollar restoration began back in 2002 and it is getting better and better. I know this isn't my usual content but these places and their history become ours as well, as we progress through our careers, and it is important to realize that contribution with our art. This building is a survivor of a demolition trend that took place in the 70’s and 80’s with a lot of old Vaudeville music houses and movie palaces being torn down. Located in the Salem Historic Old Town district. It is a grand reminder of the pride Oregonians took of their engineering, design, artistic and industrial prowess to be able to create such a magnificent structure to celebrate art and culture in this far away land the Elsinore Theatre and Salem’s Grand Theater are beautiful reminders of a wonderful artistic past that we, as performers, share and should never forget.
