At 6.45am on 18 April 2014, a chunk of ice broke off Everest's West Shoulder, triggering a huge avalanche that swept across the entire width of the Khumbu Icefall. 16 Sherpas and other Nepalis were killed. Protests followed over compensation and a week later all expeditions were cancelled. This eyewitness film includes footage of the icefall in the immediate aftermath, the poignant rescue operation and helicopter evacuations, and the protests and meetings that followed.
