And they come into the office and some people know that they need to lose some more weight, some people are uncertain how much weight they need to lose. And so, this is going to be just a brief overview of weight loss prior to tummy tuck. We know that a tummy tuck removes extra skin. We know that it tightens the muscle and we know it removes extra fat, but we really want people to be within about 10 pounds of their goal weight. Everyone has a different goal weight, but the key really is, is there as fat that can be stored inside the body cavity called intra-abdominal fat. And I can't remove that. It's not accessible to liposuction, it's not accessible for surgical removal. And so patients need to understand that they really need to do their part first and get close to their goal weight because if you are not close to your goal weight, I can't achieve the best result for you. And I will tell someone that, I'll say, "Yeah, I think we're close, but if you're going to lose another 10 pounds or 15 pounds, you probably should do that first. Because what that will allow is for me to take out some extra skin, tighten your muscles a little more, and ultimately your result will be better." If I said, "Hey, go ahead and do it now." And then you lost 15 to 20 pounds, what's going to happen? You're going to now have some loose skin and your muscles aren't going to be as tight and ultimately your result won't be as nice. --------------------------- ABOUT DR.
