History of the Indian Republic Day

Republic Day is a day to remember when the Constitution of India officially came into force on January 26, 1950. When the Constitution was officially enforced, that’s when India became a country where power was held by the people and its elected leaders such as the President and the PM. Now India was not being ruled by the British Queen.To celebrate this day, Republic Day is celebrated on January 26 every year.So how was the Constitution created? What was the process and its history? Let me tell you.After a long and difficult battle, India finally gained independence. But sadly this freedom did not come along with democracy which is the right to choose your own Government.Since India didn't have a Constitution, our country was under Constitutional Monarchy which means, India was ruled by King George VI (Husband of Queen Elizabeth) even after Independence. He ruled India just like the Government of Britain. After India's independence from British Government a Constituent Assembly was set up and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was its Chairman.This was India’s first parliament. The Constituent Assembly was set up to draft the Constitution of India, which would be the supreme law of India.The committee worked very hard. The Constitution of India was adopted on 26 November, 1949 by the Constituent Assembly of India. However it was officially started from 26 January, 1950. The reason: it was during 1929 during the Indian National Congress' (INC) Lahore Session that a demand for complete independence was made in the history of India's freedom struggle from the British rule. January 26, 1930 was announced as Purna Swaraj Diwas To honour this important day in India's freedom movement, our Constitution was adopted on January 26, 1950. The National flag is a symbol of India's pride. It is respectfully hoisted on National festivals like Independence Day and Republic Day.
