I booked a last-minute flight and took myself on a solo trip to Paris Fashion Week. This trip wasn’t just about fashion, but trusting and believing in myself enough to leap. A year ago, while in a trauma treatment center, I made a bucket list of ten places I wanted to visit. In about a year, I checked off all ten places in and out of the country. Paris was the last one. This was also the only trip I went on where I was completely alone and did not know anyone. I learned how solo travel can regulate your nervous system, expand your sense of safety, heal CPTSD, and self-worth. In Paris, I incorporated my daily rituals, skincare, meditation, reading, and reflection to keep my body connected and prepare for fashion week. Everyone I met, from strangers, Uber drivers, and bar-tenders, was extremely kind and open. The girls I met at the fashion show were all incredibly introspective, funny, emotionally intelligent, creative, and curious, qualities that seem difficult to find. On top of that, everyone was incredibly beautiful and truly confident in themselves, without needing to put others down... This reminded me how powerful an aligned connection and the right community are. By taking a risk in myself, I made new friends and had new opportunities all over the world. Despite moments of sadness and self-doubt, I kept showing up for myself. It took some self-talk and inner motivation, but dressing up, exploring, and creating helped get me out of my own head and present with the world around me. Most importantly, every outfit I wore was originally my mom, aunt, grandma, or great-grandma's. To me and for others who struggle with trauma, this can offer a variety of things, such as identity, protection, comfort, and more. Once you pour into yourself the same amount you do in others, face your fears, and break toxic cycles, the universe meets you halfway. It’s not about perfection, it’s about presence. Healing is nonlinear, but it’s beautiful when you realize you’re living in a chapter your younger self prayed for. Keep taking risks on yourself. Don’t settle. Seek internal validation over external. Surround yourself with emotionally aware people who make you feel seen. Subscribe for more videos on fashion, travel, wellness, and mental health!
