Peggye Woodson was a generous and compassionate soul who cared for her husband Orville, her children and grandchildren, and served others tirelessly. Her granddaughter Mindy was a stay-at-home mother of two: Three-year-old Cody and nine-year-old Austin. In addition, Mindy cared for both sets of grandparents and an elderly aunt on a daily basis. Jeremy, her husband of 11 years, took Mindy to the junior and senior prom. On the morning of January 25, 2010, the car in which Mindy, Peggye and young Cody were riding was stopped to make a left turn on a heavily trafficked two-lane rural highway. A pickup truck topped the hill behind them and, despite a full one-quarter mile of visibility, slammed into the rear of Mindy's and Peggye's stopped vehicle at 71 mph. The truck's driver admitted to making calls on his cell phone; his cruise control was on and he never touched the brakes prior to the crash. The impact killed 30-year-old Mindy and 82-year-old Peggye. Cody was flown to a Dallas-area hospital with serious injuries and survived. Today, Mindy's husband Jeremy is raising their two children alone. Without the attention and care of his lifelong partner, Orville, Peggye's husband of 62 years, has had no choice but to leave their family home and live out his remaining days in a nursing home.
