In Scotland, a land of imposing peaks and deep waters, staying connected poses huge engineering challenges. The Forth estuary divides Scotland into two halves and the Queensferry Crossing is the latest attempt by engineers to bridge this huge natural obstacle. The gigantic triple towered cable stay bridge is the largest of its type on Earth. Flying 55 metres over the water bellow, this £1.35billion pound project stretches a whopping 2.7km from shore to shore. It’s supported by three gigantic towers reaching 210 metres high, the equivalent of 48 London busses stacked one on top of the other. And 122 deck pieces make up the 80,000 tonne roadway, secured by 37,000km of cable, enough to almost wrap around the planet.
