Focke-Wulf Fw 44J Stieglitz D-EUDT SN.2775 walk around inside out and flight November 19, 2024

The Focke-Wulf Fw 44 "Stieglitz" is a two-seat biplane developed by the Bremen-based aircraft manufacturer Focke-Wulf, primarily used in the 1930s and 1940s as a training aircraft and for aerobatics. This model served as one of the Luftwaffe's standard training planes for fighter pilot instruction. The Fw 44 also achieved notable success in air sports, such as securing a victory in the aerobatics competition held during the 1936 Summer Olympics. Supported by promotional campaigns from the manufacturer, the Fw 44 gained popularity in at least nine other countries across Europe, South America, and Asia, thanks to its excellent aerobatic capabilities. To meet the high demand, the Fw 44 was also produced under license in many of these countries. Development and testing began in 1932, and mass production started in 1934 with the Fw 44 D version. Due to the numerous licensees involved in its production, the exact number of Fw 44s built remains unclear, with estimates ranging from over 1,900 to 3,000 units. The Fw 44J series version was produced starting in 1936. This aircraft here in this video was built in 1940 under license by C.K.D. Praga at the Prague X Flugzeugwerke, with serial number 2775. They were powered by the Siemens-Halske Sh 14, an air-cooled 7-cylinder 4-stroke radial engine with a displacement of 7.7 liters and a takeoff power of 160 hp (118 kW) at 2,200 rpm. Today, at least 14 airworthy Fw 44s remain in Europe. A few others are known to be under restoration, with plans to make them airworthy again within the next few years. Special thanks to the owner of this remarkable aircraft for providing me with the opportunity to create this video.
