Its sixth offering rekindles with the soundscape in earlier records, yet here it burns slower. "Svart natt og Morgenstjernen" does not rush to engulf, it seeps a viscous darkness where dungeon synth remains the structural spine, but dark ambient now coils more assertively around it, tightening the atmosphere with a languid grace. Where other records often leaned into a monolithic stillness, this one fractures that approach. Instead each track has a different temperament, at times oppressive, at others windswept and eerily translucent. There are occasions, although sparse, where the soundscape borders of horror ambient, yet just as the gloom threatens to congeal, Skogsfolk withdraws into dungeon synth, where simple motifs carry its melancholy. Nature ambient appears briefly as wind threading through branches, introducing a fragile organic breath into the synthesiser absolutism of the record. This interplay grants the record a narrative elasticity absent from other Grim Nihilus manifestations, its cycles becoming more palpable, as night’s suffocating depth yields, almost imperceptibly, to the first pallid glint of the morning.
