How to Size the Rubber Dive Strap on Your Watch | Hook + Gaff

One of the most common questions we get asked is how do you size the rubber dive strap? Well, one simple thing you can do is take it to a local jeweler and they can knock it out for you pretty quickly, or if you're a do-it-yourself kind of guy, I'm going to show you how to do that here today. Actually, we're going to use some common stuff that you probably have laying around the house. We're going to take a safety pin and a pair of scissors. The first thing we're going to do is take a look at the strap, and you're going to notice that it's sectioned off. This would be similar to taking out links out of a stainless bracelet watch. But instead of unscrewing links, we're actually going to cut sections out of this rubber dive strap. The first thing we're going to do is take your safety pin, and we're going to do one side at a time. We're going to push down on the safety pin. That pops off this side, and then you'll notice we have several sections here. Let's just do one section at a time. I'm going to caution you against cutting off multiple sections at a time because you don't want to cut the strap too short too son, so we're going to size this conservatively. And then, you're going to line up your scissors probably two millimeters on the one side of the filler bar and cut off that section. And then, you're going to take your spring pin and push out the filler bar, put the spring pin in, and then we will attach the clasp. Now, you'll notice there's three settings on the side of the claps. This allows you to tighten the strap or loosen it as needed.
