In today’s insightful Homily, Father Robert Reed explores the profound nature of divine wisdom and the true meaning of worship. Reflecting on Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of the Temple, Father Reed reminds us that while God’s glory cannot be contained by any building, He graciously chooses to dwell among us and hear our pleas. We are invited to examine our own hearts, moving beyond mere outward rituals to a "true faith" that honors God from within. This Mass encourages us to "see what must be done" in our spiritual lives, finding the strength to live out God’s mandates with sincerity and love. The Scriptures contrast the magnificence of the Temple with the interior landscape of the soul: -The First Reading (1 Kings 8:22-23, 27-30): King Solomon stands before the altar of the Lord and spreads his hands toward heaven in a powerful prayer of dedication. He marvels that God would truly dwell on earth, asking the Lord to look kindly upon this Temple and to "hear the pleading of your people" whenever they pray toward this sacred place. -The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 84): A longing for the divine presence: "How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord, mighty God!". -The Holy Gospel (Mark 7:1-13): Jesus confronts the Pharisees and scribes who prioritize human traditions over the commandments of God. Quoting the prophet Isaiah, Jesus warns against honoring God only with the lips while the heart is far from Him, reminding us that the word of God must never be nullified by human tradition. May this heavenly care and the Divine Sustenance we receive today cleanse us of our faults and restore us to holiness.
