Hello, I'm Joan and this book is called The Heir Apparent by Rebecca Armitage. And it's hugely entertaining for those commoners amongst us who might like to have some greater insight into how the royal family really live their lives. So Alexandrina Villiers, and if you say Villiers really fast, it almost sounds like Windsor. She's known as Lexi, and she's moved a world away from London, now living in Tasmania, where she's qualified as a doctor and she's living a very nice, quiet life. But one day, sadly, her father and her elder brother are killed in a skiing accident, at which point her grandmother, the Queen, summons her back to London, where she's now next in line to the throne. And Lexie takes 12 months to decide whether or not, in fact, she is prepared to do that. Rebecca Armitage clearly knows this world really well. She's really good at the naked ambition and the bitchiness and the vested self-interest that some of these people have. And she takes Lexi back to London and plonks her into the middle of what is essentially the tabloid sewer. Really hard to deal with. This is clearly a story masquerading as fiction, but I think that if you scratch the surface, you'll see exactly what she's writing about and who. And I really loved it.
