Now, the Ministry of Agriculture has updated rules on walking six dangerous breeds of dogs, including pit bulls. Owners must have them muzzled at all times, taken on a leash not longer than 1.5m, and have them accompanied by at least one adult. Failure to comply with any of these rules can be fined up to NT$150,000. In March, Lucky the Pit Bull made headlines for attacking two people on separate occasions within two weeks. Since then, Lucky has been impounded at the Taipei Animal Protection Office. He’s still undergoing desensitization training, and will only be put up for adoption when he’s ready. The Ministry of Agriculture lists six dangerous dog types for people to take note. Here I have a pit bull-type dog weighing nearly 20kg. Even for an adult male, it’s not so easy to maintain a grip on him. This is “Minister,”a pit bull-type dog. It seems difficult to control where he goes. Although he’s technically not one of the “dangerous” dogs on the list, he still makes others nervous. The six dog types or breeds currently classified as dangerous are two pit bull-type dogs, the Japanese Tosa, the Neapolitan Mastiff, the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasileiro and mastiffs.
