The Steps of Odessa (Freedom for Ukraine)

PLEASE SUBSCRIBE | SHARE | LIKE So we can use this song to raise money for Ukraine! Ukraine's struggle to remain free, in the face of repeated Russian aggression is nothing new. In 1905, Cossacks from the Russian Tsar fired on a crowd of civilians gathered at the bottom of the Odessa Steps. Sailors on the Battleship Potemkin mutinied -- they REFUSED to fire at the crowd. The sailors fired on the Cossacks instead. In 1925, Serge Eisenstein released Battleship Potemkin -- which is still considered to be one of the most important movies in the history of cinema. The images in this silent film (used in this slide show) were something the likes of which movie goers had never seen before. Modern directors, e.g., Spielberg, Cameron, etc. have all studied & praised this film -- and you can see the film's influence on their work. And now, of course, life imitates art with Putin trying to conquer Ukraine using a strategy based on not just superior power -- but also terror & brutality. They apparently have no appreciation for classic films at the Kremlin -- nor compassion. I do -- so I wrote this song. Lyrics below. PLEASE LIKE | SUBSCRIBE | SHARE It really helps grow the channel! Give to Mila & Ashton's Ukraine Relief Fund: https://www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with... Peace out, Roy. The Steps of Odessa It’s time we must remember The steps of Odessa And why we won’t surrender Ever again. Now we pay the price Of being way too nice As you sit cold as ice And pour on the pain. But we have all been here before And we can withstand even more A single man can’t close the door Of freedom for Ukraine! We have not forgotten The sailors on Potemkin Fighting for their women And babes in the carriage Breaking our eyeglasses Can’t dim the light Tears become our lenses To see what is right Yes, we have all been here before And we will withstand even more A single man can’t close the door Of freedom for Ukraine! Brother killing brother Russian & Ukraine No man has the power To carve the mark of Cain Yes, we have all been here before And we will withstand even more You alone can’t close the door Of freedom for Ukraine! Yes, we have all been here before And we will withstand even more You alone cannot close the door Of freedom for Ukraine!
