HOMILY SUMMARY: 3rd Sunday of Lent (The Woman at the Well)Celebrant: Fr. Timothy Imbya🏜️ CRISIS AND DOUBT IN THE DESERT Fr. Timothy begins by looking at the Israelites in the desert. Even though God took the initiative to rescue them from slavery, they quickly grumbled and rebelled against Moses and God when they faced physical thirst . Fr. Timothy asks a challenging question: When we run into crises like ill health, family issues, or the loss of a loved one, do we still believe in God, or do we feel He has abandoned us? . God never abandons us; just as He brought water from the rock, Christ pours out water and blood from His pierced side as a symbol of unending mercy .💍 MODERN RELATIONSHIPS & THE SACRED COVENANT Reflecting on the Gospel of John, Fr. Timothy notes that the Samaritan woman came to the well at noon to avoid the gossip of others, because she was living with a man who was not her husband . He boldly compares her situation to today's society, where many young couples simply move in together and act like husband and wife without actually being married . He strongly warns that making light of the sacred covenant instituted by God leads to broken homes, urging couples to have true respect and commitment rather than just jumping into bed based on physical admiration .💧 FROM SHAME TO GRACE Despite her past, Jesus did not condemn the woman; instead, He offered her the springs of living water . Because Jesus knew all her "dark spots" but still offered her mercy, she moved from hiding in shame to becoming a bold evangelizer, running back to town to tell everyone about the Messiah . Fr. Timothy reminds us that we are called to worship God in "spirit and in truth"—meaning we must be honest about our weaknesses, whether we are praying in our bedroom, our kitchen, or even while working out .😂 A FUNNY STORY ABOUT PETTY CRAVINGS To illustrate how humans often have the wrong desires, Fr. Timothy tells a humorous story about a man who prayed every day for $10 million . God finally answered him, promising to give him whatever he asked for, but with a catch: all his enemies around the world would receive double . Realizing his enemies would get $20 million, the man changed his mind and asked God to take out one of his eyes—just so his enemies would lose both of theirs and go completely blind! .✨ HEAVEN-ORIENTED DESIRES The moral of the joke is that our physical cravings and desires for vengeance are often wrong. Fr. Timothy concludes that all our longings must be "heaven-oriented" . Instead of craving worldly wealth, we should ask God for the grace to be holy, to love our neighbor, and ultimately, the grace "not to miss heaven" .#LivingWater #WomanAtTheWell #FrTimothyImbya #CatholicHomily #LentenJourney #SacredCovenant #ChristianMarriage #WorshipInSpiritAndTruth #ThirdSundayOfLent #SundayMass #CatholicFaith #GraceAndMercy
