THE WASTELAND - Original Document After the jump, there was no fall No sirens crying, no headlines at all No shattered ending, no crowd to see I woke up breathing— that was the cruelty Black Mountain didn’t kill or save Just ran out of earth I could dig in the grave One moment nothing left to mend Then there was morning and the story just… ended Coffee on the counter, boots on the floor A body still asking me to move some more What followed wasn’t darkness, it was flat and wide An endless plain where reasons died This is the Wasteland No fire, no flame Not broken, not whole Just walking the same No angels coming No voice in the sand Just learning to stand In the Wasteland Stayed sober long enough it lost its shine Stopped being victory, became just time Gravity holding me to the ground Then a quiet thought came that made too much sense somehow “It doesn’t matter anymore,” I said Not a spiral—just a shrug in my head Still showed up, still played the part Same empty days with a different spark Drinking didn’t save me, didn’t break me down Fit the silence like the dust on this town I wasn’t running, I was already gone Just walking forward with the lights turned off This is the Wasteland Wide as the years Colorless living Chemical cheers Paying the bills Laughing on command Doing my time In the Wasteland I didn’t want to die Didn’t want to live That space in between Is harder to give This wasn’t despair Despair still fights This was resignation Quiet as night No demons defeated No heaven in sight God on the radio, just off by a light Faith was a skeleton Memory-thin I stopped trusting the questions before I asked Him Time didn’t pass—it stacked like stone Days all identical, heavy, alone Not unbearable, just enough weight To notice existence without calling it fate I learned how to walk without pointing direction Keep my promises, empty of force Stand upright, no reason why Stopped trying to save myself and didn’t die Not dramatic, not brave or bold Just let go of the wheel I white-knuckled so long That’s the truth about barren land Nothing grows— but things end This is the Wasteland Where old names fall Old bargains break Old selves dissolve You don’t heal here You shed who you were Till standing still doesn’t work anymore I didn’t see the White Mountain rise Couldn’t have from these tired eyes But the ground— it tilted just a bit Not upward yet… but it wouldn’t let me quit No words came No answers planned Just something here Where silence stands Not explanation Not command Just presence in the Wasteland
