«Luxemburg Lecture» by Sara R. Farris Sara R. Farris examined and further developd the concept of femonationalism and describes how the phenomenon comes into operation. It comprises discourses, social structures as well as political interventions, which exploit gender equality and women’s rights in favor of nationalistic, sexist, right-winged extremist and anti-Muslim attacks to impede the integration of immigrants and Muslim people. Sara R. Farris analyses – with reference to very different political actors such as right-winged nationalists, feminist intellectuals and femocrats – racist politics in the context of European Countries. At the same time, she depicts that also neoliberal governments make use of the concept of women’s right to stigmatize Muslim migrants. This manipulative politics led in Germany 2016 to a profound aggravation of asylum law. Sara R. Farris is senior lecturer at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Her work to date has focused on the orientalist underpinnings of Western sociological theory, which she explored in her monograph on Max Weber’s sociology of religion, and on theories of gender, race and social reproduction, particularly as they apply to the analysis of migrant women in Western Europe. Moderation: Katharina Pühl, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung concerned with feminist analysis of society and capitalism Further information: https://www.rosalux.de/documentation/...
