Destination: Rock Creek Park, and Up to the Carter Barron

Wednesday Cycling: Rock Creek Park/Carter Barron This ride might only equate to, only the third or 4th time I have cycled the pathways through Rock Creek Park on a road bike. This is because the trails were in pretty bad shape until about 3 years ago. Yet, due to the pedestrians, curves and bridge crossings, speed is not your friend! Enroute, I decided to visit the Vietnam Memorial, as I often do if my route takes me near it. Then I continued on to the woods, where I enjoyed great scenery, and of course I tried to capture as much of it as possible. Today, I also had one of those instances where I said out loud to myself: "That would have been ugly"! I said this after a cyclist decided to pass me on my left, but failed to signal until he was right beside me. At the same instant that he voiced his position (on your left) I was already moving leftward to pass a couple of walkers. To make matters worse, an oncoming cyclist prevented him from moving over-more leftwards. Although Beach drive is only open to cyclists and pedestrians, and you have the entire roadway, you can't take anything for granted. Lesson learned: continue to expect the unexpected!
