These are my favourite Irish rebel songs from before 1900, so nothing about the Easter Rising, IRA etc which usually feature. These songs recall the Irish Rebellion of 1798, along with more obscure conflicts like the Earl of Tyrone's Rebellion and the Battle of Glenmalure. They were written after the events described, largely as a part of the Fenian movement, using Ireland's history of rebellion against English oppression as a rallying cry. An interesting Fenian who fought in North America is the topic of a song in this video. Disclaimer: I do not own any of the music or footage used in this video. The YouTuber in the last clip is called the Rambling Kern, who was walking through Glenmalure dressed as a 16th century Irish warrior.
