From Forgotten Garage Dresser to a Showstopping Beauty! This Drexel Serpentine Dresser has been on quite a journey. Once a true statement piece, it eventually fell from grace, endured years of wear and tear, and was ultimately cast away to the garage—forgotten, like an old worn-out shoe. But I saw its potential. With those beautifully curved drawers and solid craftsmanship, I knew this piece could be stunning once again. The transformation began with stripping the top down to bare wood, where I put two different stripping techniques to the test to see which was faster. After that, I tackled much-needed repairs to the veneer, trim, and sanded the entire piece, ensuring a flawless foundation for its new look. The top finish evolved through several stages, each layer deepening the warmth and richness until I achieved the perfect tone I had envisioned. Then, it was time to prime, paint, and topcoat. I chose a warm, soft white that paired beautifully with the rich wood tones of the top—a classic and timeless combination. I freshened up the hardware to its brilliant brass beginnings using the hardware soup technique and LOTS of elbow grease. With the refreshed hardware installed, I moved on to the final challenge: lining the curved drawers. These are always tricky, but I’ve finally mastered a shortcut that makes the process so much easier!
