This is an advanced shadow work exercise for those who are sincere about confronting uncomfortable aspects of themselves and experienced in voluntarily working with feeling. If you are new to shadow work, it is recommended to first perform some of the fundamental exercises from the Active Imagination Playlist, for example The Wall, Journey into the Depths and The Shadow Room, before progressing to the Shadow Child exercise. You can access the Make it Conscious Active Imagination Playlist here: • Active Imagination Exercises The shadow is a hidden and unexplored territory within our psyche. It harbours emotional imprints and aspects of ourselves that we've learned to suppress or ignore. The Shadow Child can be imagined as the embodiment of these imprints from your early years, formed in response to the need for acceptance and love. Born in childhood, our shadows are the result of adaptations made, often at the expense of our true selves. While initially protective, these adaptations can lead to misalignments and suffering in adulthood, manifesting in recurring relational patterns, addictive behaviours, and the familiar challenges and situations we find ourselves in. In this active imagination exercise, we’ll engage directly with your Shadow Child. This journey offers a pathway to better understand and integrate these hidden aspects of your psyche. It's about uncovering the root causes of your adult challenges, comprehending the childhood conditions that shaped you, recognising the parts of you that haven’t been allowed to flourish, and understanding your triggers and their impact on your life. Ultimately, this exercise aims to find pathways to resolution, fostering a future that is more aligned with your true self. Remember that whatever you experience during this exercise is a reflection of your own mind and inner wisdom. After completing the exercise, reflect on your experience and the insights you gained.
