Inspired by vast subjects, including cosmology, quantum physics, meta-physics and philosophy, Jupiter is an album in the more traditional sense, in that although it is not really a concept album, it does flow with a narrative thus encouraging the listener to hear it as a single body of work as opposed to a collection of individual songs and instrumentals. All of the material is written by and produced by Harvey Summers and he is ably assisted and accompanied by a wealth of musical talent, including a guest appearance by bass player, Danny Thompson on the title track. Jupiter is Harvey's first personal album project in many years, his time having been taken up with many commissions and production work for other musicians. With this album, Harvey was keen to really showcase the sound that he has been developing at his own Broadoak Studios, focusing entirely on his ideas, without brief or commission. He set out to create a vast, sonic landscape full of both earthly and other-worldly imagery but without resorting to the use of synthesisers or samples; therefore every single sound has been performed by a musician, recorded organically and then processed, via the mixing desk, with various effects and treatments to create new and exciting sound textures. Amazingly, no synthesisers or samples have been used, apart from the moog taurus bass pedals, which appear in place of bass guitar on some tracks. Harvey Summers set out on his musical career early on and in his late teens was given the chance to score a Doctor Who spin-off video. This led to other commissions and by his early 20s was working on official audio dramas of the series, working with Colin Baker, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy among others. Around this time he set about building his own studio and established his first company, Medium Moose Records. Over the years Harvey has worked on scores for many films and TV shows and has met and worked with a host of interesting people, including Russ Conway, Paul McCartney, Phil Thornton and Danny Thompson.
