As the star vocalist of the Police Orchestra active in the 1960s, he became one of the first artists to leave the institution and join the young guard of independent bands. Often described as the 'Ethiopian James Brown' for his style and stage presence as well as for his music, Alemayehu has long symbolized modernist Ethiopia: in love with rhythm' n' blues and soul music, while staying loyal to the unique roots of millennial Abyssinia. Alemayehu Eshete has toured all over the world and was one of the first artists to ever record vinyl music in Ethiopia. _____________________________________________________ Addis Jazz Festival was first organized by Muzikawi and held in Addis Ababa on October 6th 2019, showcasing a legendary line-up comprised of artists Alemayehu Eshete, Hailu Mergia, Samuel Yirga, Kibrom Birhane and Kayen Lab.
