How To Add The Power Steering Fluid: Top Up Power Steering Fluid. In this video tutorial I will show you how to add the power steering fluid. Here is how to do it: ● First, you will need to gather the necessary materials. They include a suitable power steering fluid, a clean rag, and a funnel. It is also recommended that you park your vehicle on level ground to ensure you get a correct reading of the steering fluid levels ● Open your car's hood and look for the steering fluid reservoir. Typically, it is near the engine and has a black cap. ● Next, check your car’s steering fluid level. If the fluid reservoir is translucent, you can read the level without opening the cap. However, if the reservoir material is opaque, you must use a dipstick to check the fluid level. The dipstick has markings indicating the minimum (MIN) and maximum (MAX) levels. First, wipe the dipstick using a rag before dipping it back as far as possible and removing it. ● Add the fluid if your steering fluid level is below the minimum level. Use a funnel to avoid spillage and fill up to the maximum mark. Adding any fluid if the level is between the MIN and MAX marks is unnecessary. Be careful not to let any dirt enter the reservoir. Also, keep checking the fluid level to avoid exceeding the MAX mark. ● Replace the cap securely and then start your car. Turn the steering wheel a couple of times to circulate the fluid. You can even take a short drive. ● Finally, recheck the steering fluid level and inspect the reservoir for leaks. If you notice that you add steering fluid frequently, this might be a sign of leakage in the system. Inspect for any indications of leakages.
