New friend to start with this year. The owner is no longer happy with how bushy the tree has become, and now we'll try to reduce the growth. I need to ensure that the new buds deep within the tree aren't shaded out by needles from above. By pinching off the most vigorous new growth on the long branches, the lower needles and shoots will receive more light and energy. This will allow me to cut off the longer, older branches in favor of the branches deeper inside the tree. The end goal, which will take time, is to reveal the elegant, curvy form of the trunk line and give the tree a less bushy, more refined, and slimmer appearance.
