Today we archive a classic game that originally was released on the PlayStation and has recently been remastered in glorious HD. Suikoden is a JRPG that is famous for the huge number of characters you can recruit, level up and play with. Besides the main characters you will meet in the story, you can explore the world and recruit over 50 new units. From simple farmers or barmaids to kung fu masters and dragon warriors. You can mix and match and can have 5 characters with you at a time. This gives plenty of replay value and room for experimentation. In the story we play the son of a famed general who serves the emperor. After a fateful day we get betrayed by the empire and join the rebel forces. From here on out a giant campaign to topple the empire begins. Besides exploring dungeons and caves you also get to go to plenty of villages and cities. But another thing that is very unique are the giant battles between two armies. During this there is a rock-paper-scissors kind of dynamic occuring and these battles are really awesome as you can utilize different abilities depending on the units you recruited. This means that exploring actually provides value and new gameplay oppertunities. Probably the weakest component is that a lot of backtracking is required throughout the game and though there are certain items you can use to cancel this, there are often moments where those items cannot be used.
