This video shows how to install the port into the Trohet speaker. The video also discusses the purpose of the port. Ported speaker is also know as a Bass Reflex design, which consists of a woofer, cabinet and a port.. The port is cut into the cabinet, which allows the air inside the cabinet to interact with the outside air. The intent of the Bass Reflex design is to enhance the production of bass generated by the woofer. The way the system works is by way of the woofer causing the air inside the cabinet to vibrate, which in turn causes air within the port to vibrate at a certain frequency. You can think of this similar to a person playing the didgeridoo - as they blow air into the didgeridoo, it will produce sound.
