Episode 1454 Minnie (Margot Bryant) receives another surprise when a man called Eddie Yeats (Geoffrey Hughes) turns up and explains that her expected guest Jed Stone (Kenneth Cope) has been unavoidably detained. Minnie is more than happy to put him up as he is a friend of Jed’s much to Ena’s (Violet Carson) disapproval. Upon visiting the Rovers, Eddie quickly becomes smitten with Bet (Julie Goodyear). Jerry (Graham Haberfield) secures two tickets for Christmas Day lunch at the Claremont Hotel but is left disappointed as Mavis (Thelma Barlow) plans to spend the day with Carlos (Malcolm Hedben). Fellow crook Nobby Harris (Donald Webster) tries to tempt Eddie into taking part in a supermarket robbery during a deliberate blackout on Christmas night. Eddie refuses as he wants to try and go straight. Blanche (Maggie Jones) agrees to Annie’s (Doris Speed) compromise over Christmas dinner. Hilda (Jean Alexander) isn’t happy when Stan (Bernard Youens) sells their Christmas tree to Eddie for £2. Seeing an opportunity to make a profit, Eddie buys up all the candles from the corner shop to sell during the blackout.
