What's up everyone, I hope we're all doing well. Today we'll be covering the PT.1 75% keyboard from Trace Kit Designs. A minimalistic 75% layout, with some serious attentions to details. 7.5 Degree typing angle, with a 17.00mm front height. Coming unbuilt at 2.05 kg, and fully built at 2.5kg. This keyboard keyboard launched for GB a year ago in Oct, 2024, and is currently in-stock over at @clickclackio with limited options available. This keyboard starts at $248 USD, and can range upwards depending on extras you decide on. Let's talk about things! The PT. 1 is a Top-mount keyboard coming in a clean and symmetrical 75% layout. I do wish it also allowed for some gasket mounting action, but don't think it is recommended or advised in any way shape or form. Having only one mounting style, I will say TKD focused on that Top-mount and EXCECUTED. Extremely nice bezels, being one of the keyboards defining characters along with that chamfer that carries around the board from the sides, connecting things all around giving a more classier look. With the price point coming in just under $250. Id say this is a very well priced board considering the level of quality and attention to details your getting with this board. An extremely clean coating without any flaws or imperfections, that's extremely smooth to the touch. An external and internal brass weight, that truly adds some heft to the board while also impacting the acoustics of the keyboard. Stainless steel insert weights that also add more heft, while helping reduce case pinging and hollowness. A recessed USB-C port that has been beautifully patina'd, which colors depend on the variant selected. Lastly, Included screw in stabilizers, that require very to little modifications to sound good. This is a ton of great quality materials especially when considering the price point. With the layout options, I was happy to see the availabilities on the solderable PCB, but I do wish they offered the same with the hotswap variant. Being someone who loves to swap out switches to achieve a different sound and try different things, I am extremely saddened to see the only option we have on the hotswap variant is solely a stepped caps. Being forced on a 6.25 is a tough pill to swallow in my opinion, as I've grown extremely fond of my 7u spacebars. While I've never soldered before, I figured what better time to learn than now? The first soldering session went well, with no sight of things looking crooked or slanted. With soldering though, if you want to rebuild there is de-soldering and let me tell you.... THAT AIN'T IT. I was super bummed to see i'm going to be forced on a 6.25 spacebar with this keyboard as i find myself needing/wanting to rebuild far too much to keep 1 set of switches. I may pick up an additional plate to have for the solderable build keeping things nice and clacky, and on the flip side constantly rebuild with the hotswap and just go 6.25 for the sound tests... Not a dealbreaker as I do still find the keyboard to be worth the value, especially if you love yourself a true top-mount board in a 75% form factor. Head on over to the link down below to check out what options are still in stock, sadly don't have any affiliate codes with @clickclackio as of yet, but maybe within time.
