Miracle Marathon 2016: Jimmie Durham, The Stone

For our Miracle Marathon artist and poet Jimmie Durham wrote and recorded a new work for us called 'The Stone'. Manthia Diawara is a Malian writer, filmmaker, cultural theorist, scholar, and art historian. Here, he examines Aimé Césaire’s poem Calling the Magician and describes his travels with Édouard Glissant. The Serpentine’s annual festival of ideas brought together practitioners from the fields of activism, art, anthropology, architecture, literature, music, philosophy, theology and science. The 2016 Serpentine Miracle Marathon focused in on ritual, repetition and magical thinking to consider ways in which the imaginary can not only predict, but also play a part in affecting long-term futures.
