CJI not impressed with Calcutta HC judge for giving interview to TV Channel on

A sitting Calcutta High Court Judge's alleged interview to a TV channel has got the attention of the Supreme Court. SC has said that- "If a judge gives his views to the media on an issue against a political personality, then he is 'disabled from hearing a case relating to the matter against the politician'. CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha took exception to Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay's interview on Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee. Justice Gangopadhyay ordered CBI and ED to probe the politician's role in the teacher recruitment scam in WB even as the case related to it was before him. Many teachers were terminated for allegedly being recruited illegally in WB. Some had connections with the ruling Trinamool Congress. Abhishek Banerjee had approached the SC saying 'the judge expressed a dislike for him in the interview'. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee stated that the HC ordered the CBI and ED to investigate him, even though he had no links with the scams. SC gave an order on April 17 to put the April 13 order from HC on hold. The TMC leader is protected from any kind of questioning.
