Hi there! I'm Nathan Hassall, London based professional saxophonist and teacher. In this video I'm performing a really pretty, soulful piece called "Slowly" by Bob Mintzer. It's from his book, "12 Medium-Easy Jazz Blues & Funk Etudes" published by Belwin Jazz, and is currently featured on the Trinity College London Jazz Sax Grade 5 syllabus. This piece is a great one for working on your rhythmic accuracy, due to the amount of semi-quavers and syncopation it has, so I recommend you get your metronome out and set it to a quaver beat! When working on pieces in this way (with this subdivision) will help remove the guess work for the placement of the semiquavers, and ultimately help us play much more accurately. I love using this piece to work on embellishments with my students. There are plenty of chances here for both grace notes and mordents. They are really stylistic additions that can help make our playing sound more polished and professional. Check out the side camera angles here, and this should help you work out what I am doing. If you'd like to know more about me, please do check out www.saxophoneteacher.co.uk and please do like and subscribe! There's plenty more videos to come! Happy practising! Best wishes, Nathan
